For a bar, restaurant, venue or event company, the hard part is rarely deciding to stock canned drinks — it is buying them legally, in the right quantity, in time for the date on the calendar. Wholesale canned cocktails Canada buyers purchase through provincial channels, not a normal retail checkout, and the process differs in British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario. Here is the practical version: what your licence must cover, how ordering works province by province, what to ask about cases and lead times, and how to estimate what a crowd actually drinks.
Wholesale canned cocktails Canada: licensee buying is not retail buying
Alcohol distribution in Canada is provincially regulated. Each province sets its own wholesale pricing, approved purchasing channels and rules about which licence classes may buy at licensee rates. A valid, active liquor licence is required for licensee purchasing — there is no legitimate shortcut, and any supplier offering one is a supplier to avoid.
A brand lists its products with your province, but the order itself flows through the provincial system. Your job is to make sure your licence, your account and the product listing line up before you promise a client 400 drinks.
Licence checklist before you place a single order
- Confirm your licence class and endorsements cover what you are planning — on-premise service, catering, an off-site event, or resale.
- Check the expiry date — an expired licence stops an order cold.
- Confirm the product is listed in your province — a SKU sold in one province is not automatically orderable in another.
- Confirm your licensee account is active and that you are using the approved purchase channel.
- For one-off events, ask whether a special occasion permit applies, and who may legally receive and transport the delivery.
- Keep invoices and purchase records — your provincial authority can ask for them.
How licensee ordering works in BC, Alberta and Ontario
The three provinces where Aura is available each work differently, and programs change. Treat the outline below as orientation, then confirm current rules with your provincial liquor authority.
British Columbia
Licensees order through the BC Liquor Distribution Branch system using a wholesale customer account at BCLDB wholesale pricing. No account yet? That is your first call, before you talk to any brand. Confirm account, ordering and delivery requirements with the BC Liquor Distribution Branch.
Alberta
Alberta's retail tier is private, but the regulator is the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC), and a product must be registered provincially before a licensee can order it. Purchasing runs through registered products and authorized agents or wholesalers. Confirm your obligations with AGLC.
Ontario
The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) issues and enforces liquor licences, while the LCBO is the wholesale supply channel for licensees. Verify your licence standing with AGCO, and your account, ordering process and delivery options with the LCBO.
Case quantities and lead times for bulk canned cocktails
Aura ships 355mL cans by the case of 24 in Cucumber Lime, Coconut Pineapple and Mango Peach — the full lineup is on our vodka water cocktails page. Everything past the case size is quote-specific and varies by province, volume and season, so ask rather than assume. Put these in your first email:
- What is the minimum order for a licensee account in my province?
- What is the current lead time from purchase order to delivery, and does it stretch around long weekends or December?
- Can I mix flavours on a pallet, or does each flavour ship in full cases only?
- What best-before window is on the stock I would receive?
- Who do I contact if a delivery arrives short, damaged or late?
- Is point-of-sale material or sampling support available for a launch?
Start with wholesale ordering, then contact our team for province-specific answers in writing. If you are a founder building your own label rather than buying ours, ask about custom drinks manufacturing.
How many cans will a crowd actually drink?
Do not borrow someone else's ratio. Build the estimate from numbers you control:
- Count guests of legal drinking age, not total headcount.
- Use your own drink rate. POS history from comparable events beats any rule of thumb.
- Apply a category share — what portion of drinkers reach for a canned cocktail instead of beer, wine or a mixed drink.
- Convert to cases: total cans divided by 24, rounded up.
- Split across flavours using your own sell-through.
- Add a buffer. Sealed cans store and travel well, so surplus becomes next weekend's inventory rather than waste.
The formula: (guests of legal drinking age × drinks per guest per hour × hours of service × canned-cocktail share) ÷ 24 = cases. With no history to draw on, ask your rep what comparable venues in your province order, then refine after the first event.
Why a still can earns its fridge space
Most canned cocktails for bars are seltzers, and a fridge full of the same fizz is hard to merchandise. Aura is the still alternative: premium distilled vodka, alkaline water at pH 8.5 or higher, and natural flavour. Zero carbonation — no bubbles, no fizz, not a seltzer and not a vodka soda. No bubbles means no bloating, which is why guests come back for a second round. No added sugar, no artificial sweeteners, no preservatives, gluten-free. Service is simple: crack, pour over ice, no foam. More at why Aura, and current retail availability at where to buy.
