Cucumber Lime

Cucumber lime vodka water is about as clean as a canned cocktail gets: premium distilled vodka, alkaline water, cool cucumber and zesty lime. Nothing added, nothing carbonated. If you normally order a vodka soda and wish it were less harsh and less gassy, this is that drink without the bubbles.

Vodka water vs vodka soda

A vodka soda is vodka plus carbonated water. A vodka water is vodka plus still water — same simplicity, none of the CO2. That matters more than it sounds: the dissolved gas in a soda or seltzer comes back out of solution in your stomach, which is exactly what people mean when they say sparkling drinks make them feel bloated and full. Take the carbonation away and the problem goes with it.

Why cucumber and lime work here

Carbonation is a blunt flavour tool — it scrubs the palate and hides a rough spirit. Without it, there is nowhere for a cheap vodka to hide, so a still build has to start with better liquid. Cucumber gives the drink a cool, green freshness; lime supplies the acidity that keeps it crisp; the alkaline water base (pH 8.5+) rounds the finish rather than sharpening it.

How to serve it

• Chill hard, then pour down the side of a tall glass over fresh ice.
• Garnish with a long cucumber ribbon and a lime wheel — aroma sits where your nose goes.
• Excellent with sushi, salads, goat cheese, and anything you would otherwise drink a dry white wine with.
• Drinking with food? A still cocktail will not fill you up before the meal does.
